The Constitution of the
Britannian Armed Forces

Article I : Purpose

  1. It has been so decreed that the Kingdom of Britannia requires a military force.  The purpose of this force is to protect Britannia from its enemies, both foreign and domestic, through appropriate use of force.

  2. The Britannian Armed Forces shall also encourage and support the Virtues, but at no time shall enforce the rule of virtue through force, nor shall the military oppress any sentient being on the basis of belief system, race, age, or sex.

Article II : Members of the Britannian Armed Forces

  1. It has been decreed that the Britannian Armed Forces shall consist of multiple organizations, each deriving authority from the Grand Marshall himself.  Individually, these organizations will be referred to as branches.

  2. The Branch Leaders will serve also as an advisory council to the Grand Marshall.  The Advisory Council shall advise the Grand Marshall on their branch status, and other military matters.

  3. The Grand Marshall shall have no authority to influence or affect the internal workings of each branch.

  4. The Grand Marshall may demand that any individual be dismissed from any branch, but only when clear evidence is presented that the member has committed some violation.  The individual to be removed may request a review of his conduct by the Branch Leaders of the Britannian Armed Forces to determine if his actions were unbecoming of a member of the military.  The findings of this review will then be examined by the High Council in a private meeting to include the Grand Marshall; the High Council may choose to veto, by simple majority vote, the removal of the individual.

  5. The Grand Marshall has the authority to remove branches of service from the Britannian Armed Forces, but this may be vetoed by the High Council or the High Justicar Triumverate through a simple majority vote.

  6. No member of the military may be a criminal.  If a member becomes a criminal while in service, they must be removed immediately.

  7. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will recognize the authority of the Grand Marshall and recognize that the Grand Marshall's orders in combat situations supercede any orders given by other officers or Branch Leaders.  In the absence of the Grand Marshall, the orders of any appointed Field Marshall or Field Officer are to be followed in a similar manner unless they contradict standing orders of the Grand Marshall.

Article III : Branch Functions

  1. Branches of the Britannian Armed Forces will have a written charter clearly expressing their primary purpose in the military.

  2. Branch Leaders and members are responsible for presenting any intelligence vital to the security of the Ruling Council, the High Council, or citizens of Britannia to the Grand Marshall.

  3. Branches of the Briannian Armed Forces may, at no time, enter into an agreement with any governing body or individual that may interfere with the defense of the Kingdom of Britannia or orders issued by the Grand Marshall.

  4. No individual Branch may invade or initiate major combat with a foreign enemy without the consent of the Grand Marshall of Virtue.

Article IV : Code of Conduct

  1. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces who are knocked unconscious during a battle will visit a healer, collect their belongings, don a gray robe to signify their inability to continue combat, and leave the combat zone.

  2. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces may not impose taxation of any sort without the consent of the Grand Marshall of Virtue or the High Council.

  3. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces must be willing to give their life in the defense of the realm and fellow members of the military.

  4. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will never surrender, nor will any commanding officer surrender his command while they still have means to resist.  Surrender is never an option unless the surrender is the only means possible for the defense of the Kingdom or to save the life of another.

  5. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces must remember that they are responsible for their actions, and will take no action unbecoming a member of the military.

  6. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will act with the highest moral character, and will not belittle others nor use vulgar language while on duty.

  7. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will never raise their weapon or spell against a citizen of Britannia unless necessary for the defense of the realm or in the defense of an innocent.

  8. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will not negotiate with Enemies of the State.  They are to be removed from crown cities and the High Council Chambers.  If they refuse the order to leave, appropriate force will be used.

  9. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will not strike down an enemy if he has fallen into stupor or sleep.

  10. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will come to the aid of all other members of the military in combat situations, even if outnumbered.

  11. No member of the Britannian Armed Forces will harass any citizen of Britannia, nor interfere with their daily functions, unless necessary for the defense of the realm.

  12. Military personnel shall, whenever possible and feasible, maintain the eight Shrines of Virtue, keeping them free from corrosion, the elements, and monsters.

  13. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will stay current on all warrants and arrest known criminals.

Article V : Field Officers

Section I : Field Marshalls

  1. The Grand Marshall of Virtue may appoint Field Marshalls from amongst the various Branches of the Britannian Armed Forces, who are responsible for assisting and advising the Grand Marshall in military affairs.

  2. Field Marshalls derive their authority directly from the Grand Marshall of Virtue.

  3. Field Marshalls must adhere strongly to the Military Code of Conduct, and are subject to all limitations and rights of a military member as detailed in this charter.

  4. Field Marshalls may give no order that contradicts the standing orders of the Grand Marshall of Virtue, unless an urgent situation vital to the defense of the Kingdom warrants it.

  5. Field Marshalls may not give an official declaration on specific issues without the consent of the Grand Marshall, but may cite current policy as established by the Grand Marshall of Virtue.

  6. Field Marshalls will have battlefield command and control in the absence of the Grand Marshall.

  7. Field Marshalls may conduct and organize lawful military operations.  They may also organize and conduct official military training exercises.

  8. Field Marshalls are authorized to issue warrants for witnessed criminal activities.

Section II : Field Majors

  1. Each Field Marshall may appoint, with the approval of the Grand Marshall, a Field Major.

  2. Appointment of Field Major status is temporary, and will only be enacted by instruction of the Grand Marshall of Virtue.

  3. Field Majors are authorized, as are any field rank, to issue warrants for crimes they witness or are made aware of.

  4. Field Majors will attend Military Advisory Council meetings when possible.

  5. Further limitations and details of Field Major authority will be listed as the need for their existence becomes a reality.

Section III : Field Captains

  1. The Grand Marshall, a Field Marshall, or a Field Major may appoint, in times of necessity, Field Captains, who shall be placed in command of battle forces, and who shall be empowered to make necessary command decisions that do not contradict or countermand any orders higher in the chain of command, nor are contrary to the laws of Britannia.

  2. Field Captain is a war-time only rank, and is only a temporary assignment for the duration of a battle or other incursion.
