The High Council, having met in two private sessions at the end of the year 357 and the beginning of year 358, held its first public meeting. Thus began the days of the High Council of Britannia...
Present: Councilors Covenant (Minoc), Fl'Gith (Magincia), Kellor (Moonglow); Chancellor Ghyss.
Discussion of Meeting Location
Chancellor Ghyss opened the first public meeting of the High Council with a continuation of a topic that had been broached in the formative private sessions. The debate was whether to rotate between four Trammellian cities and one Feluccan city, or to keep the meeting location in the North Dining Room of Castle British, with an occasional meeting in Felucca. Other suggestions were made as to the meeting rotation. By the end of the discussion, it seemed clear the favored action was four meetings in Trammel and one in Felucca.
Moonglow Library at the Lycaeum
Councilor Kellor of Moonglow announced that with the help of Lucas of the Trinsic Council, a large library had been gathered at the Lycaeum, and that a grand opening of it would be coming within the next two weeks.
Meeting of the Peoples of Magincia
Councilor Fl'Gith of Magincia told that in the coming days there would be an announcement of a public meeting in Magincia to bring renewed commerce and interest in the isle.
The Temple of Mondain
Councilor Covenant of Minoc spoke of the Temple of Mondain, who were apparently plotting to control key elements of Britannian society through the use of a ring that allowed them to influence thought. Councilor Kellor inquired as to whether they were responsible for the death of Rath Stonesoul, Councilor-Elect of Skara Brae. Councilor Covenant responded that he was not sure if it was the Temple or the Cult of the Black Dragon. He also told that the Temple had attempted to influence his thoughts, and force him to usurp the throne, though they knew not that it was not Councilor Covenant, but a stand-in. Councilor Kellor reported that several Moonglow citizens had been massacred by the Mondainites in response to Covenant's refusal to go with them. Councilor Fl'Gith stated that a strong resolve against the Mondainites should be made if they are attacking defenseless citizens, regardless of cause. Chancellor Ghyss reminded that Mondain's powers were not solely his own, but from the knowledge he had gained, and suggested that countermeasures should be looked into against the Temple.
The Atalan
DarkSoul, ambassador of the Atalan, approached the Council as Councilor Covenant informed us that he had received a message that the Council was to surrender en masse, and that we should prepare ourselves for death. DarkSoul asked that the Council accept their mandate of war, telling that the time of man is in its twilight. Apparently the Atalan are a race of dark elves, forsaken by man and high elves. The Council was singularly unimpressed, and Chancellor Ghyss asked how man could have forsaken the Atalan if they had never before heard of the Atalan. Councilor Fl'Gith asked what wrongs DarkSoul believed had been committed, pointing out that it would be impossible to correct wrongs that the Council was unaware of. DarkSoul responded that he could not intelligibly comment on the sins of our fathers. After much discussion about what was transpiring, DarkSoul informed there would be no surrender from Britannia, only that their prophecy demanded they issue a mandate prior to commencement, and that the Council merely had to accept. He also commented that the cowardice of the High Council was well documented against the Temple of Mondain, to which Councilor Fl'Gith was surprised that the High Council was well documented in any manner at all.
Confirmation of the Death of Rath Stonesoul
Chancellor Ghyss spoke that he seemed to be uninformed, and was looking for confirmation of Rath Stonesoul's passing. Councilor Covenant said that it was his understanding that, indeed, Stonesoul was dead. Councilor Fl'Gith said he wasn't sure, as he hadn't seen a corpse.
The Atalan, Again
Asimov of the Atalan approached to tell a tale of their beginnings, but due to words spoken, he was unable to complete it during the meeting, though Councilor Fl'Gith agreed to speak with both him and DarkSoul after the meeting.
Thus stood the first meeting of the High Council of Britannia adjourned. |
